I did an Amazon review of Pat Buchanan's new book The Greatest Comeback: How Richard Nixon Rose from Defeat to Create the New Majority. It's being slammed by the right-wing reviewers. If you want, you can balance the feedback. Read the review here. Friday, April 18, 2014

Amanda Marcotte on the right's Cliven Bundy Syndrome: The only reason right-wing media is giving sympathetic coverage to Bundy is that he’s identifiable as a conservative and therefore his desire to make money off the backs of taxpayers without paying his fair share gets sympathetic treatment. But if he was black or female and got away with even a dollar more food stamps than he was owed, he would be treated like public enemy No. 1 by Fox News. Being able to shrug off laws you don’t like is a privilege reserved for the few in the world of conservative media. Thursday, April 17, 2014

Robert Boston on the religious right's persecution complex: Why, then, is there so much complaining from the religious right? (And it does come primarily from religious conservatives. Mainline and moderate clergy tend to understand their position of privilege and appreciate it.) Why do we hear so many cries about persecution? Wednesday, March 12, 2014

L.V. Anderson mentions me in her article on Oscars security: But so far, Oscars crashers have tended to be people like [gatecrasher Scott] Weiss, whose devious aim was to take pictures with a bunch of celebrities, and people eager for their 15 minutes of fame, like the 1963 crasher Stan Berman, the man who dubbed himself “Surfer Dude” in 2002 [note: she's referring to me], and the 1997 crasher who went on to write a book called How I Went to the Oscars Without a Ticket. I finally had the opportunity to check out Gabriel Sherman's book The Loudest Voice in the Room: How the Brilliant, Bombastic Roger Ailes Built Fox News--and Divided a Country. I wrote a review on Amazon.com and you can read it here. If you like it, you can give the review a thumbs up. I elaborated on some of Sherman's themes. Sherman mentioned Fox News operative Bill Sammon's memos used against Obama. I gave some background on Sammon, mentioning some of his previous ratfucking and cited my article in American Politics Journal on Sammon. Tuesday, February 18, 2014

Griffin profusely apologized for the staffer who tweeted that American conservatives "hate" interracial relationships. The right's record on race is horrendous. Just a couple examples: 1) The right's patron saint, Ronald Reagan, was a virulent race-baiter with a horrible record on race. Haley Barbour, who was recently the head of the RNC, recently praised the White Citizens' Council. Tuesday, January 28, 2014

John P. Walters, is a hardass drug warrior who once co-authored (with William Bennett) an article in the Weekly Standard, that--against all evidence--claimed that marijuana had no medical uses. Matthew Continetti Kisses the Koch Brothers' Asses (again)Today on National Review Online Continetti once again treats anyone who is the least bit concerned about the massive amount of money that the Koch Brothers have contributed to reactionary causes as paranoid. He did the same thing in The Weekly Standard in 2011. Lee Fang of Think Progress addressed Continetti's conflict of interest.Wednesday, January 08, 2014
