Some bloggers have already commented on the silliness of Byron York's new book The Vast Left Wing Conspiracy: The Untold Story of How Democratic Operatives, Eccentric Billionaires, Liberal Activists, and Assorted Celebrities Tried to Bring Down a President--and Why They'll Try Even Harder Next Time

My grievance is with part of the title; it mentions "eccentric billionaires" on the left. Certainly York is referring to George Soros. Soros is eccentric compared to whom? Certainly not the right-wing billionaires who have been funding the right's media and policy apparatus.

Who are these right-wing billionaires? The top two billionaire funders of right-wing and Republican causes are self-proclaimed messiah Sun Myung Moon and Richard Mellon Scaife. Both have contributed hundreds of millions--if not billions--to the American right over the past three decades.

Let's first deal with Moon, the convicted felon, self-proclaimed messiah, blesser of the Holy Handkerchiefs rape-enabler, Japanese widow-scammer, theocrat, and hater of America. For a quick comparison of Soros and Moon, please consult this handy chart.

While Moon has a messiah complex, Scaife has a major persecution complex. He believes that Bill Clinton is responsible for bumping off dozens of people who got in his way. This urban legend, known as the Clinton Body count, was a staple not only for loons like Scaife and the mouthbreathers at the Free Republic web site, but was put forth by the current head of the fair and balanced network, Roger Ailes, as well as Rush Limbaugh and various members of Congress. Here's a short primer on Scaife and some of the more noxious of the ratfucking hacks he's been funding since the early 1990's to promote his loony conspiracy theories (by the way, David Horowitz, one of Scaife's biggest monkey-boys, got creamed with a pie the other day).

I could go on, but I'm busy. I think the test of the strength of an argument is whether anyone wants to challenge it. Does anyone on the right want to defend Scaife or Moon?
