The Clerks II World Premiere After-Party
I made it up to LA last Tuesday in an attempt to crash the Clerks II World Premiere After-Party. I succeeded--I even got a friend inside too.
The screening and the party were put on by Gen Art. The party was fun but there were a few disappointments: 1) It was a cash bar except for Absolut drinks (Absolut was a co-sponsor of the event); 2) There was no food except for the roped-off celebrity area (my partner-in-crime cadged some french fries for me from someone in the celeb area; 3)The music was too loud; and 4) There was no swag--except for black Absolut vodka shirts. I thought for sure since this is a Kevin Smith film, there would be some cool swag for the party guests. No dice. I guess I'll have to buy it.
The party was at Avalon near Hollywood and Vine. I met some chill people. My friend and I went out on the dance floor and I danced the mashed potato and the lawnmower. Later into the night, when I was looking for my friend, I went out on the patio reserved for smoking and smelled some fine herb that was being smoked. I didn't see who had been smoking it. My friend text-messaged me and told me she was upstairs in the celeb area. I made my way up and spoke to some people there. Despite the small disappointments, I was totally stoked.
Notes: People ask me why I don't try to crash the premiere screenings. The reasons: 1) The screenings have assigned seats (which is one reason that Wedding Crashers raised a question for me and other movie-goers: didn't any of these wedding receptions have table assignments for the guests? 2) During the premiere screening itself, I'm busy finding ways to get into the after-party; 3) I can see the movie after it's released. The party is a one-time affair.
