(UPDATED) Name the (somewhat) prominent Democrat, upon hearing that Michael Steele won the Republican National Committee chairmanship, wrote the following: "Congratulations Mr. Chairman, now let's kick butt." UPDATE: The answer: It was written by Fox News Democrat Tammy Bruce. Here is her post. I'm working on a couple huge posts. I should have at least one up by tomorrow. I'm not a big NFL fan--I'm athletic, not a spectator. The only sport I follow is college football (I have degrees from Ohio State and Miami of Ohio so I root for them). I root for the Browns (one reason I'm not an NFL fan). Even though the Steelers are the sworn enemy of Browns fans, I'm rooting for them. My rationale: I'm not a big Browns fan and Steelers QB Ben Boethlisberger went to Miami U. Thursday, January 29, 2009

January 2005: Here's what Bill O'Reilly said when I asked him about Joshua Green's reporting that Rove started a whisper campaign that a political opponent was a child molester: Alright. Well look. If that's true--and I don't know the case. If that's true, then Karl Rove is to be chastened. If that's true. I'm not going to stick up for Rove. I don't know him. I talked to him twice in my life for less than 30 seconds each. But if that Atlantic Monthly article is true. . .I mean, I can't accuse Rove of doing anything at this point in my career, because I don't know. I know they were very nasty to McCain in South Carolina--that was horrible. I don't know who did that. I don't know whether that was Rove or that was the South Carolina Bush people. Whoever did that was disgraceful. But alright it is a legitimate point of discussion.January 2009: O'Reilly offers Rove--whom he calls a "stand-up guy"--a place to hide: "Now, if you need a place to hide out, we have it here at the Factor. We have all kinds of tunnels and places we can put you."

I just read on Political Realm that former DNC chair Terry McAuliffe aired his first ad for the 2009 Virginia gubernatorial contest. I'm tempted to move to Virginia just to vote against him. Here and here are a couple reasons. Sunday, January 25, 2009

I found a great Jack T. Chick tract parody. I love Chick tract parodies. Some Chick tract parodies are better than others (quick note: my favorite Chick tract parodies: Daniel Clowes' "Devil Doll" from Eightball #1; Jim Woodring and David Lasky's "Jesus Delivers"; Jim Huger's "Dead to Rights"; and Kurt Kuersteiner's "The Collector"). It's been so long since I've been to a rave. When I moved to LA in 2000, I had been to more than a few raves. I didn't like the LA rave scene. Why did the rave scene start sucking? A couple big reasons: 1) sleazy promoters who care about nothing more than making a buck; and 2) The cult of DJ worship. People started going to raves and underground parties, not to interact and party with each other but to be spectators to a popular DJ. After a couple years of going to raves and underground parties in which people were losing sight of the whole purpose of a rave--to party and interact with others; more often than not, these raves degenerated into DJ concerts. In 2002, I couldn't take it anymore and focused on getting into Hollywood parties by any means necessary. The other day, I found a Chick tract parody titled "The Trance Cracker" that echoes many of my frustrations with the modern rave culture. This is a re-wording of the highly inflammatory Chick tract "The Little Bride." "The Trance Cracker" tells how rave culture has been hijacked by self-promoting Eurotrash DJs and their clueless followers and it calls on those with the authentic spirit of the rave to reclaim the rave. Best lines in the tract: "A party exists for its own sake and for the sake of its participants. Your job is to contribute, to interact, and celebrate" and "What do you think The KLF would have to say about the state of today's concert-raves? They'd storm the fucking stage in a furious act of liberation and conceit, calling all true ravers to 'Kick out the JAMMS, motherfuckers!' MC5 1:2" Addendum: Favorite rave film: Doug Liman's Go. It's not only has a good take on rave culture but the film also lampoons Amway. You can't ask for much more out of a film. Friday, January 23, 2009

WorldNetDaily 1/20/09, Ann Coulter: In fact, the [real] victims in this endless graveyard of victims being created by liberals never get recognized as victims. Does George Bush get recognized as a victim? No, of course not, nor would he want to be, but, wow, there's been a lot of [character] assassination movies and books about him. Wow, there have been a lot of attacks on him and lies. If Republicans treated any Democrat the way Democrats have treated George Bush, I think they might have something to that "Republican attack machine." But until then, it's pretty apocryphal. WorldNetDaily 9/24/98, Joseph Farah, founder of WorldNetDaily and Clinton conspiracy theorist, and proponent of the "Clinton Body Count" urban legend in a column titled "The Clinton Body Count": Congress may still be wondering whether President Clinton should be impeached for his sexual improprieties, but a growing number of Internet denizens and talk-radio listeners are all but convinced he's much worse than a lying Gigolo. . . In recent months, a list of more than 80 deaths associated directly or indirectly with Clinton has been the buzz of the new media. In the last week alone, I estimate I have received two dozen copies of some version of the document. . .While such lists have been around for a long time, the most amazing thing about them is not only how fast they are growing -- which they are -- but how incomplete every single one of them is. . . . Is it time to add one more name to the growing and staggering Clinton body count? I don't know, but the fact that such questions are not even raised in polite media company is not a good sign in a supposedly free society.

I was checking my Statcounter stats and found that someone from the Department of Homeland was checking out this web site. Then I found that the way that the person got to this site was a Google search of "Carrie Gene Southern Methodist." Explanation: in order to pump up my stats, whenever Playboy has a college pictorial of one of the college athletic conferences, I include a post with the names of the women in order to get more hits. In 2007 Playboy had a pictorial "The Girls of Conference USA" and I did a post and listed the names of the women in the pictorial. Carrie Gene represented Southern Methodist University. I'm glad the boys in Homeland security are doing their jobs. Tuesday, January 20, 2009

I discovered years ago that Ann Coulter is full of it. I haven't bothered to read her last two books--why bother when Media Matters can do it and report the various errors, lies, and important omissions. I set up a site to point people to important lies that Coulter made in her latest book Guilty and how Media Matters has been on top of things. Guilty, unlike Coulter's previous book If Democrats Had Any Brains They'd Be Republicans which tanked, is a bestseller. A big reason is the phony controversy, publicized by the Drudge Report, that Coulter was banned by NBC. Coulter benefits because of her friendship with Drudge and she returns the favor, most recently with her absurd claim that "the Drudge Report has never had to retract a report." Media Matters refuted this canard with many examples. I would like to add the following observations. Coulter used her previous book Slander to cover for Drudge. In Slander, Coulter wrote a blatantly misleading assertion about Drudge's libel of Sidney Blumenthal--I dissected Coulter's dishonesty in a post on this blog. Addendum: Drudge wasn't happy enough with libeling Blumenthal; Drudge later posted an item on the Drudge Report when another person with the name Sidney Blumenthal was arrested for a heinous crime. One final note on the matter, when Drudge had a radio show, I confronted him on the air about his libel of Blumenthal and his abbrogation of journalistic principles--Drudge, to no surprise, played the victim card. Attention fans of irony and comix: The Chickster once again pimp-slaps the Vatican with his new Catholic-bashing tract "Papa." Also, Chick has an inflammatory new book Hot Topics which takes on Dungeons and Dragons, Islam, gays, and others.

Hugh Fuckwit's article in the Politico on Bush's legacy is bad but here is the probably the worst part: The other part of Bush’s central legacy will be the example of the correct temperament of a commander in chief in wartime. Though relentlessly attacked by a domestic left wing deranged by fear or hate, Bush refused the temptation to return in kind the abuse he received. The campaign of 2004 was tough, but there was nothing in it or in Bush’s administration remotely approaching the scale of dirty tricks that marked many episodes in the years from Kennedy through Bill Clinton regarding the treatment of political enemies. Bush’s reserve when it came to political hardball is a standard of crucial significance for the long war ahead. Labels: Hugh Hewitt

From the Minneapolis Star Tribune: Former Republican Gov. Arne Carlson said today that Norm Coleman should consider bowing out of the U.S. Senate election dispute.Addendum: Gratuitous namedropping Alert: Last spring, I was at a party hosted by Arianna Huffington (no, I didn't crash; I was invited) and met Al Franken and wished him good luck in the Senate race. David Sirota on the meme being pushed by the right that FDR prolonged the Great Depression. It's nothing new. I've read this in National Review. Limbaugh and Rush-clone Mark Levin have been spreading this meme in recent weeks. UPDATE: Another must-read item is Paul Krugman's column on the GOP. Thursday, January 01, 2009
