Unbalanced: Fox News' conspiracy theory obsession. I previously wrote about how Fox News CEO Roger Ailes was part of the 1990's Vince Foster conspiracy factory of the 1990's. Friday, November 26, 2010

I was watching C-SPAN's Book Notes last weekend and David Horowitz was promoting his new book Reforming Our Universities: The Campaign For An Academic Bill Of Rights. Just to give you an indication of where he's coming from, I wrote about a previous attempt by Horowitz to reform higher education: suing the University of California Board of Regents to install Michael Savage (yes, that Michael Savage) as dean of UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism. Paul Krugman "There Will Be Blood": The fact is that one of our two great political parties has made it clear that it has no interest in making America governable, unless it’s doing the governing. And that party now controls one house of Congress, which means that the country will not, in fact, be governable without that party’s cooperation — cooperation that won’t be forthcoming. The other day I wrote a review of George W. Bush's Decision Points (it's in the two-star section). The wing-nuts are giving it the thumbs-down. Rate it according to whether you like the review.

Steve Kornacki "The disingenuous advice of Fox News Democrats" (professional self-loathing Democrats Pat Caddell and Doug Schoen). I wrote about Caddell in 2004. UPDATE I: Steve Benen has more. UPDATE II: Salon has more on Caddell Wednesday, November 10, 2010

I was able to check out a little of George W. Bush's interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity. One thing I found informative was that Hannity, at long last, admitted that there were no WMDs in Iraq and the basis for the war was bogus (to no surprise, Hannity expresses sympathy for Bush asking him how he felt after the discovery, “Frustrating for you?” To those of us familiar with Hannity during Bush's rule, at least it's progress. After it was acknowledged by everyone that there were no WMDs, Hannity and Fox News operatives insisted that they either found WMDs (click here, here, and here) or that WMDs were not in Iraq because they were moved. I wonder when Hannity came around to the truth. Tuesday, November 09, 2010

Salon.com's Joan Walsh was great: MATTHEWS: What do you find of [George W. Bush's] remarks with Matt Lauer the other night educational? Anything new there? WALSH: I don`t think there`s anything terribly new there. He wants to make it clear that he stood up to Cheney. He wants to make it clear that he was really his own man, and so he reveals a few things that basically we already new about Libby. I find it -- the idea that Libby was a soldier on the battlefield left behind is just so self- pitying and so dramatic on Cheney`s part. But I guess I... (CROSSTALK) MATTHEWS: Especially since Cheney made a point of never being a soldier on the field, with five deferments. WALSH: Really. Really. Exactly. (CROSSTALK) MATTHEWS: And so the common soldier on the field, or use that reference, like I`m an old battle hand. I have been out there as a warrior. I know how these... WALSH: And we`re all out there taking fire, when we`re sitting in comfy offices and we`re outing a CIA agent and putting her in danger. Watch the video. Friday, November 05, 2010

In 2008, after Barack Obama had nearly gained enough delegates to secure the Democratic nomination, Rush Limbaugh launched "Operation Chaos" encouraging GOP voters to vote for Hillary in the Democratic primary (by this time in the process, McCain had enough delegates for the GOP nomination). Fox News helped out by puffing up Hillary. Limbaugh's goal was riots in the streets during the Democratic convention in Denver. Fortunately, Limbaugh's project--though it caused a few scares--was a failure (apparently, Limbaugh was trying to make up for almost singlehandedly losing the Senate for the GOP in 2006; his asshole move of accusing Michael J. Fox of faking his Parkinson's disease symptoms cost the GOP the Missouri Senate seat and control of the Senate). We should return the favor in 2012 by encouraging Democrats and progressives to support one of the following Republican candidates in 2012: 1) An early front-runner who would be a weak candidate in the general election such as Sarah Palin or Mike Huckabee; or 2) A challenger to a GOP front-runner who would be strong in the general election. This is something that progressive operatives should be thinking about now. It can be done cheaply and effectively. Thursday, November 04, 2010
