Busted! I just read this because I've been busy moving and doing the LA Book Fest thing. El Rushbo was booked yesterday. His mugshot is not on the Smoking Gun's site yet.
Adding to My Media Reading List I had a minor beef with one of the guys from Truthout.org a few years ago so I've never linked to the site until now. The reason: today on the Ed Schultz radio show, Big Eddie interviewed Jason Leopold, who writes for the site, about his memoir, News Junkie (Podcast here); it looks like a good read. Leopold also discussed the Plame affair and he predicted an indictment of Karl Rove.
Addendum--quick note: Schultz made an appearance in San Diego last month and I was able to have a quick talk with him. I asked him if he thought the Dems would take the House. He was optimistic but thought that they would have to work hard to avoid falling a couple short. Final thought: they don't call him Big Eddie for nothing: I'm 6'1" and 200 lbs. and he dwarfs me.
UPDATE: MSNBC's David Shuster also thinks an indictment is down the road for Rove. When Rove gave up his duties as cheif White House policy coordinator, he did so to focus on poltics--specifically to have an impact on the 2006 elections. It looks as if he will--but for reasons he didn't intend. Rejoice.
The Real Tony Snow Having gone to Miami University, I know southwestern Ohio more than I would like; it didn't surprise me when I read that possible Scott McClellan replacement and Fox News operative Tony Snow is from Sharonville.
Anyhoo, Media Matters has the goods on Snow. I remember during the 2004 campaign listening to Snow's Saturday radio program and hearing Snow denegrate John Kerry's Purple Hearts.
I missed this Robert Parry article from 4/7 Parry writes:
Lewis Libby’s testimony identifying George W. Bush as the top official who authorized the leaking of intelligence about Iraq’s alleged nuclear weapons program raises two key questions: What did the President tell the special prosecutor about this issue in 2004 and what is Bush’s legal status in the federal criminal probe?
Bush’s legal danger came into clearer focus with the release of a court document citing testimony from Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney’s former chief of staff who claimed that Bush approved the selective release of intelligence in July 2003 to counter growing complaints that Bush had hyped evidence on Iraq’s pursuit of enriched uranium.
I Loved This Film Steven Greenstreet's This Divided State a documentary that chronicled what happened when Michael Moore was invited to speak at Utah Valley State College in in largely Republican Orem, Utah right before the 2004 election and how outraged locals reacted. There are so many funny things about this film (I won't write about them because I don't want to give away any spoilers). See the film.
Quick observations about the film: Sean Vreeland, an student anti-Moore petitioner, reminded me of Don, Napoleon Dynamite's jock nemesis. . .Sean Hannity is in the film and shows what a man of the people he is. . .
Addendum: other films I have seen recently that I liked:
Quick note on the vote: Tomorrow (Tuesday, March 11) is the special Congresional election to fill the seat of the departing Duke Cunningham who was tapped for another federal assignment. Francine Busby, the Democratic candidate has a good chance of winning. Click here to help out tomorrow.
UPDATE: (Via the Huffington Post): The AP is reporting that the White House has a connection to the 2002 election phone-jamming episode in New Hampshire. Drip drip drip. . .
Back From Hiatus I went on hiatus from this blog in February. There were several reasons for this. First, I had just been hired to a position that required a lot of time out of my schedule to learn some new computer applications.
Another big reason was that my computer had some major problem and it was necessary to retrieve files and eventually to find a new computer.
I don't have the new computer yet but nevertheless I'm going to get back to blogging. One major announcement: in the near future, I'm going to create a new blog devoted entirely to media and political issues. The reason I will do this is because there are two major problems with this blog: 1) it has the worst name in the world; and 2) it's a hybrid blog--part media/political blog and part personal journal. This leads to confusion with readers; people familiar with my media work e-mail me and ask me why I write posts (such as this one) extolling the work of fringe comic tract publisher Jack Chick (Answer: I have an ironic appreciation of Chick's demented comix--quick aside, Chick has a new tract out titled, "Four Angels.").
Accordingly, once I get the new blog off the ground, I will use it to post about media issues and use this blog to post about pop culture, surfing, and my party crashing experiences. The forthcoming media blog will be multi-media so I still need to do some more work before I get it up-and-running. In the meantime, I will post regularly on this blog.
Some recent news and updates: a blog started that is devoted to a concept I developed: calling up right-wing talk radio jocks and fighting them on their own turf. It's appropriately named "Calling All Wingnuts." I have given them a high place on my blogroll.
During my hiatus, one decision I made was to utilize my Google Bomb Blog more (my goal is one Google bomb each week). Fellow Google bomber Shannon (of A La Gauche fame)has a google bomb of Bill O'Reilly on his blog devoted to Google bombing--Le Google Bomb. I have added this g-bomb to my Google bomb blog as well as to the end of this post. If you're a blogger, help out by adding the Google bomb to your blog.
