Not Good, I'm Afraid
Even though I believe that John Kerry would be better at fighting terrorism than Bush, I am forced to believe that the release of the bin Laden tape will undeservingly aid Bush. The release of the tape has changed the dynamics of the last days of the election campaign. Before yesterday, Bush was on the ropes over his ineptitude regarding the 380 tons of missing explosives at al QaQaa. This is sad.
UPDATE: Bush's people are calling the tape "a little gift." This is sickening.

Let's look at what is happening right now.

The Bush campaign is trying to use the OBL tape to slap the Kerry campaign around, knock them off their stride, and argue that for Kerry now even to mention anything about the president's failure to bag bin Laden is the height of shamefullness.

The president's communications director even told reporters that the only acceptable thing would be for John Kerry to observe a twelve or more hour moratorium on attacks on the president, even though the president should be allowed to continue attacking John Kerry.

That is what they're playing for. (That's also the reason the Bush campaign didn't allow the Kerry campaign to be briefed on the soon-to-be-released tape until late in the day. The president knew about it early in the morning.)

If the Kerry campaign falls for this it would be the height of foolishness. In itself the bin Laden video is not a matter of controversy. What the president's campaign is trying to do is either goad the Kerry campaign into three days of passivity in the run-up to the election or fuss up a debate about the supposed outrageousness of Kerry's faulting the president for allowing bin Laden to remain at large. The Kerry folks should not play into that trap. The answer is to keep to the game-plan and remain on the offensive.

The foreign policy focus of the Kerry campaign has long been the president's failure to maintain the focus on al Qaida, as evidenced by his failure to capture bin Laden and dismantle his network. To abandon that message now would be insanity.

If you're a Democrat and you notice your fellow Democrats dipping into these spasms of fecklessness and weak-kneedism, as I've described above, I strongly encourage to slap them around a few times and tell them to get a hold of themselves. If you're experiencing such spasms, by all means, slap yourself a few times and tell yourself the same thing.

More than 95% of the electorate has already made up its mind. This is all about how those last few percentage points of the electorate break. And that will be determined by which campaign holds the initiative, stays on the offensive for the next three days and who can mobilize their forces to win this on the ground.

So Much News, So Little Time
I had an internet malfuncton but will post extensively tomorrow. Omen: Today George Bush went to Columbus, Ohio and appeared with Arnold. Schwarzenegger appeared with another George Bush in Columbus in 1992--right before Bush was clobbered by Bill Clinton. I was there in 1992--it was an event at Nationwide Plaza and a former co-worker crashed the event. He snuck in with a GOP poobah into the area behind the stage. He stood with the Oak Ridge Boys, Schwarzenegger, and Bruce Willis right behind Bush when he spoke. He has a videotape of himself right next to Bush. That took some major cajones. Yes, I love to crash events but I draw the line at ones in which the Secret Service is doing security.

I'm Moving
I played hooky from work to do an interview for a gig in San Diego. For those of you who might be confused, I'm a San Diegan whose residence is currently (and regretfully) Los Angeles. I don't care if I get the job--I'm moving to SD at the end of November. I don't care if I have to live on the street. I am so sick and tired of the alleged City of Angels.

I am in my element in SD: it seems as if the city was made for me. LA is an okay city--as long as you don't have to live there.

He has now won over at least 31 papers that went for Bush in 2000, while Bush has only earned two Gore papers.

Quick Notes On The Sinclair Machine
Friday night's Stolen Honor broadcast on Sinclair stations was largely a bust--the Freepers were pissed. This just in: Elizabeth Jensen and Walter F. Roche Jr have a comprehensive article on Sinclair in today's Los Angeles Times--it is titled, "Sinclair's Growth Matched by Criticism." Some excerpts:

Located 16 miles from downtown Baltimore in Cockeysville, in an area made fragrant by a spice plant, Sinclair's brick-and-black-glass five-story headquarters stands out on the horizon, the Sinclair name in two-foot-high letters atop the building. A few feet away sits the local headquarters of the Bush-Cheney campaign, to which Sinclair's owners and executives have contributed. This election cycle, Sinclair executives have given nearly $68,000, 97% of it to Republicans, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, which documents campaign contributions. In other years they have given more, as in the 2000 campaigns, when they donated nearly $178,000, 98% of it to Republicans. . .

Sinclair contends that centralizing operations allows newscasts by stations that otherwise couldn't afford to offer them. In an interview with The Times this year, Mark Hyman, the company's spokesman, said that since its "News Central" launched — with national news produced in Baltimore and local news wrapped around it — Sinclair has hired 350 news employees and launched 13 newscasts on stations that didn't previously carry news. Hyman hasn't returned recent calls.

In the May interview, Hyman said "News Central" presented a "very balanced view."

"The reason why some on the left characterized us as conservatives is we run stories that others in the media spike," he said. One example he singled out at the time was a news conference by a group, little known at the time, that called itself Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. Over the summer, it emerged as one of Kerry's most powerful critics, pouring millions of dollars into ads attacking him. The Swift boat group, whose claims have been largely discredited by eyewitnesses and military records, has since allied itself with former Vietnam POWs who appear in the anti-Kerry film "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal," five minutes of which were incorporated into the Sinclair broadcast Friday night.

Bush's Brain
A couple weeks ago, I spoke with Joe Mealey who co-directed Bush's Brain, a documentary based on the book with the same title by James Moore and Wayne Slater.

I haven't had a chance to see the film but the book is scary. Some insights from Mealey that I thought were insightful (and disturbing). Mealey believes (and I agree with him) that Rove, not Dick Cheney, is the second most powerful person in America. Mealy pointed out how Rove not only goes for an opponent's weak areas but an opponent's strong points: John McCain's heroism (as well as McCain's adopted child--which led to the rumor by Rove's operatives that she was McCain's love child), Anne Richard's commitment to diversity, Mark Kennedy's strong record of protecting children, and John Kerry's war record. A couple qualities that Mealy admired were Rove's tenacity and street smarts.

Prediction
If the Bushies are going to spring some kind of October surprise, it will be before Tuesday, 10/26.

UPDATE: Right after I wrote this, I caught this tidbit from the Free Reublic web site--it was originally written in the Power Line Blog: We just Got a Tip...

...that a major newspaper will break a front-page story Monday morning that could create a serious problem for the Kerry campaign. We don't yet have any details, but it relates to a foreign policy issue, and it will call into question--amazingly enough--John Kerry's truthfulness.

We'll watch for the story Sunday night and post it as soon as it becomes available.


UPDATE: Apparently the rumor started with Red State blog. I've heard the story with be in either the Washington Post or the Washington Times--big difference there.

UPDATE: Apparently, it's the Washington Times (aka The Moonie Times) that is coming out with the story. The Washington Times is not a real newspaper--it's the creation of a nut job and false messiah who bought a printing press and hired some hacks. However, even though the Moon's Times is a rag, it hasthe potential of being utilized by the right's media network (click here and scroll down to "Case Study Number Two").

The only person in the Congress who showed any imagination or strong interest in these criminal activities that were going on underneath the nose of the U.S. government was Senator John Kerry, who was serving his first term. Kerry had heard about this through his family connections in Massachusetts, and he took an interest. He turned his staff loose on looking into the Contras. Working through the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, they pressed the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide information about this that was available. The Reagan/Bush administration tried to block Kerry's inquiries at every turn.

And the media started to attack Kerry.

Right. Led by South Korean theocrat Sun Myung Moon's newspaper, the Washington Times, the conservative news media began attacking John Kerry. Some of the allegations were that he was off on some wild tangent, that this was all crazy, that he was wasting government money. Later on, as the evidence built up that there really was something going on, the Washington Times started attacking Kerry with the tack that he and his staff were "obstructing" the investigations of wrong doing that the Reagan/Bush administration supposedly wanted to carry out. Kerry's early investigative work involved piecing together how Ollie North's secret operation was working, and that then spun off into looking at the drug trafficking that was running up through Central America.

Tonight on Special Report, there was a panel to discuss election issues comprised of Morton Kondracke, NPR's Mara Liasson, Charles Krauthammer, and host Brit Hume--three partisan Republicans and one nonpartisan (Liasson). It was a joke. When the panel discussed voter disenfranchisement in Florida, Kondracke--against all evidence--referred to voter disenfranchisement in 2000 as "an urban legend." Krauthammer called talk of disenfranchisement "a fraud" and brought up the canard of Democratic disenfranchisement of military ballots. Liasson only spoke about spoiled ballots (and very tepidly). The panel also used the polling data from RealClearPolitics.
Write NPR's ombudsman Jeffrey Dvorkin at ombudsman@npr.org and JDvorkin@npr.org and ask him to review the 10/19/04 edition of Fox News' Special Report. Ask about possible violations of NPR's ethical guidelines. Issues of particular concern: 1)Was there a conflict of interest in that a legitimate journalist (Liasson) was pitted against three pro-Republican operatives? 2)Did Liasson's participation in this sham discussion serve the audience members' best interests? 3)Did this discussion further the ideals of truth, both factually and contextually? 4) Did this discussion promote fairness, accuracy, and balance? 5)Did this forum adhere to the ethical standards of public radio?

I just saw Republican pol Ed Rogers on Hardball and he told people to take the advice of RealClearPolitics.com. Wrong. Right at election eve 2000, RealClearPolitics.com predicted about 400 electoral votes for George W. Bush (I'm too busy to look up the actual number; email me if you know). Bush's actual electoral vote count: 256 earned electoral votes plus 25 stolen electoral votes.

The latest Salon has an article on polling that's worth a look.

UPDATE: Actually, RealClearPolitics predicted 446 electoral votes for Bush and 92 for Gore.

Talking with Dick Morris
Last night, Dick Morris was at the Barnes & Noble in Santa Monica to discuss his new book about Bill Clinton, Because He Could. There were about 70 people there. To increase the likelihood that Morris would call on me during the Q & A, I dressed for success (a pinstripe suit and a Brooks Brothers tie). I wanted to ask a media-related question.

I'm no big fan of Morris. However, I was positively impressed by his talk. If nothing else, Morris is probably the most articulate person to have worked for both Fox News and the New York Post.

Anyhow, I didn't get called on so I waited until after the signing line died down and he was signing extra books. I asked Morris if I could ask a quick question. He said sure. I asked if after the study by the University of Maryland's Program on International Policy Attitudes (the one that showed that the more people watched Fox News, the more likely they were to be ignorant of important foreign policy issues) was released whether Roger Ailes or anyone asked Morris to examine the study's methodology. Morris told me nobody asked him to check it out. I took him at his word and thanked him for his time.

Confronting a Fox News "Democrat" and Apologist for Carlton Sherwood's Journalistic Misconduct
Yesterday, I was listening to the Fox News Democrat Tammy Bruce's radio show and it was typical Bruce. She bashed John Kerry for the entire program. In addition, she had on her show Mark Hyman, the vice president of Sinclair Broadcasting--the group that is forcing its members to air the anti-Kerry defamation film Stolen Honor. I tried to speak with Hyman but was only able to talk to Bruce. However, I got in some useful information about Stolen Honor director and former Moon apologist Carlton Sherwood to Bruce's listeners.

First some background on Bruce. Bruce is the former head of the LA chapter of the National Organization for Women who has become a shill for the most reactionary elements of the American hard right. When I first encountered Bruce in 2002, I had no idea who she was. I had tuned into Dennis Prager's radio show and he announced that he had a lesbian Democrat on his radio show. Bruce was on the show to defend Dr. Laura Schlessinger against the well-deserved criticism from gay groups for her anti-gay bigotry. When I heard Bruce, my bullshit detector went off big time. I called up the show and pointed out how Schlessinger used the discredited research of notorious anti-gay crusaders Jeffrey Satinover and Dr. Paul Cameron to bash gays and lesbians (disclosure: Satinover regards me as a critic--a distinction that I view as a badge of honor). It didn't sway Bruce. I found Bruce's apologia for Schlessinger utterly pathetic.

Bruce is one of those people who claim to be a Democrat, but who use this label to bash Democrats (plus, it is a rather lucrative gig). Bruce is also a Fox News Democrat (a phenomenon I discussed in this recent post). Not surprisingly, Bruce writes for Christopher Ruddy's NewsMax(click here for a transcript of a phone conversation in which I discussed this with her). Bruce is also a member of the Talk Radio Network which is run by deranged cult leader Roy Masters (I have listened to Master's radio show--which advertises on Bruce's radio show--and the guy is truly fucking nuts).

I had a full plate of things I wanted to discuss with Hyman. Among them were his smear of John Kerry (derived from the Swift Boat liars) over his Silver Star (ABC News recently corroborated official Navy records that Kerry won his medals honorably and that Hyman lied; to date, no retraction or apology from Hyman).

Unfortunately, Hyman left the show before I could speak with him. But I was able to speak directly with Bruce. Here is the transcript (I posed as "Trevor"):

BRUCE: Let's go to Trevor listening on KABC. Trevor, welcome to the Tammy Bruce Show.

SCOOBIE: Hello, Tammy. I wanted to address journalistic integrity regarding Sinclair and Stolen Honor. Really, when it comes to Stolen Honor and Carlton Sherwood, the director, I don't know where to start when it comes to journalistic misconduct. For example, throughout his career--

BRUCE: You're talking Sherwood, right?

SCOOBIE: Yes. Throughout his career, he violated important provisions of the code of ethics of the Society of Professional Journalists.

BRUCE: Who said this?

SCOOBIE: Legitimate journalists John Gorenfeld as well as Robert Parry of Consortium News [Clarification: Gorenfeld and Parry didn't explicitly mention the code of ethics but documented Sherwood's misconduct.]

BRUCE: Two guys have said this about Sherwood? Okay.

SCOOBIE: Yes. When Sherwood posed as an independent journalist who wrote a book exonerating the Reverend Sun Myung Moon who owns the Washington Times--you know, the ex-con who thinks he's the messiah. Well, what had happened was that Moon himself had reviewed Sherwood's manuscript and that's a serious violation--

BRUCE: Trevor, do you remember something Mark [Hyman] had said about if you don't want to talk about the details of the issues, you try to destroy the character of the people involved. You try to destroy the messenger. Do you remember that comment, Trevor?

SCOOBIE: I remember that distinctly and this is an issue of journalistic ethics. I know since you write for NewsMax you don't know too much about that, considering--

BRUCE: Trevor, this is a perfect example and I can only say so much. So now my integrity--regardless of what I write--the association, you're impugning my character because I associate with other conservatives.

SCOOBIE: Not because they're conservative but-- [at this point, Bruce potted down my audio and spoke over me; While Bruce spoke over me, I was pointing out that Christopher Ruddy--who runs NewsMax--was a disgrace to journalism when he shilled for Scaife as the Vince Foster conspiracy theorist and now runs NewsMax, hardly an exemplar of journalistic integrity (Click here and here)]

BRUCE: [Talking over me] Have you read what I've written? Trevor,have you--Trevor, have you read what I've written?

SCOOBIE: Absolutely, all the time. I read NewsMax because I do a weblog and I study--[At this point, Bruce disconnects me]

BRUCE: Okay, I'm sure he studies something. Perfect example of not dealing with one detail of an issue in front of us about the nature of John Kerry's behavior, the specifics of the harm his statements made on the POWs, or even the legitimacy of the details of whether Sinclair should broadcast-- [the tape ran out at this point but I think you get the picture]

ANALYSIS: I realize some people might think that mentioning Ruddy and NewsMax was a mistake because it gave Bruce an excuse to disconnect me. Maybe, but it wasn't as if she was going to keep me on that much longer anyway. More importantly, Ruddy segues well in a discussion of Carlton Sherwood because both are good examples of a mutant strain of political operatives who pose as journalists. The valid point I was making was that it didn't surprise me that Bruce was promoting Sherwood's libels because she writes for someone like Ruddy.

I'm the opposite of people like Bruce, Ruddy, Ailes, and Swift Boat Liars head John O'Neil. I just don't understand these people. In my book, what is important is to tell the truth. This isn't the best blog on the internet (I wish I could devote more time to it), but it has heart, soul, and balls.

I have other fish to fry so I'm not devoting a lot of time to the phony controversy over Mary Cheney. One thing I can't let pass is today's comments on Fox News Sunday by Bill Kristol. Kristol's phony anger over the comment made me sick (Kristol called Kerry's comment "creepy"). Here's a story about what was written about gays in Kristol's Weekly Standard a few years ago. Here's a short synopsis: Bill Bennett wrote a gay-bashing story in the Weekly Standard that used the discredited and fraudulent research of Paul Cameron. When Elizabeth Birch wrote a letter to the editor protesting this, Bennett cited another researcher (Jeffrey Satinover) who supposedly had findings that allegedly supported Cameron's work. REALITY: This other supposed researcher was not a researcher but, like Cameron, a gaybashing activist. The supposed independent research was comprised of citations to Cameron's debunked pseudoscience. To date, no retraction or apology from the Weekly Standard.

Rove's Legacy
Didja see on the Drudge Report that supposed Democratic flyer with George W. Bush's head superimposed on the body of a special-needs child at a Special Olympics? Turns out it was a Rove-esque Republican dirty trick (by the way, the Atlantic Monthly article on Rove is now available online--read it). Also, read Nick Confessore's take.

So far, no retraction from Drudge--no surprise there (BTW, go to the sidebar and read my vain attempts to reason with Drudge about journalistic integrity). Lou Sheldon's Traditional Values Coalition still has a press release on their web site wrongly blaming Tennessee State Representative Craig Fitzhugh for distributing the flyer. Let's see if Sheldon and the TVC include righting wrongs and making amends in their list of traditional values. Team America
As I was going across town, playing in my head was the song, "America Fuck Yeah" written and performed by Trey Parker. I heard it when I attended an advance screening of Team America: World Police. The film was crude, abrasive, Juvenile, violent, and it skewered many people I admire--I loved the film. It was funny as shit. I don't want to give too much away but a puppet did a bitchin' reverse cowgirl.

I also love advance screenings because I'm a swag-whore. I have some great stuff I've collected over the years. I was one of the first people in line so I received a movie poster. The screening was sponsored by FM 106 a hip hop and R & B station. They asked people from the audience to come down and do a quiz for Team America shirts and other swag. I went down even though I'm not much of a hip hop or R & B fan (my favorite station is Star 98.7). The quiz involved the DJ giving us a letter and we had to name a hip hop or R & B artist. I got "J" right when I answered Janet Jackson but I knew I couldn't win so I gave fucked-up answers. When the DJ gave me the letter "A", I answered "Alanis" (which earned me boos from the crowd). My consolation prize was two Team America wristbands.

Tuesday, I tried to sneak into the Team America premiere after-party but failed. I was bummed but I think I learned a lesson from the film: I need to be a better actor. That doesn't make sense if you haven't seen the film so go see it.

A Case for the Provisional Ballot

(Oct. 12) -- Employees of a private voter registration company allege that hundreds, perhaps thousands of voters who may think they are registered will be rudely surprised on election day. The company claims hundreds of registration forms were thrown in the trash.

Anyone who has recently registered or re-registered to vote outside a mall or grocery store or even government building may be affected.

The I-Team has obtained information about an alleged widespread pattern of potential registration fraud aimed at democrats. Thee focus of the story is a private registration company called Voters Outreach of America, AKA America Votes.

The out-of-state firm has been in Las Vegas for the past few months, registering voters. It employed up to 300 part-time workers and collected hundreds of registrations per day, but former employees of the company say that Voters Outreach of America only wanted Republican registrations.

Two former workers say they personally witnessed company supervisors rip up and trash registration forms signed by Democrats.

"We caught her taking Democrats out of my pile, handed them to her assistant and he ripped them up right in front of us. I grabbed some of them out of the garbage and she tells her assisatnt to get those from me," said Eric Russell, former Voters Outreach employee.

Eric Russell managed to retrieve a pile of shredded paperwork including signed voter registration forms, all from Democrats. We took them to the Clark County Election Department and confirmed that they had not, in fact, been filed with the county as required by law.

So the people on those forms who think they will be able to vote on Election Day are sadly mistaken. We attempted to speak to Voters Outreach but found that its office has been rented out to someone else.

Nobody Had to Steal Carlton Sherwood's Honor--He Never Had Any To Begin With
A few weeks ago, I asked bloggers to googlebomb a revealing article about "journalist" Carlton Sherwood, who smear film Stolen Honor is being shoved down the throats of cable subscribers as "news programming" by the right-wing cable provider, the Sinclair Broadcast Group.

That post itself is high on a Google search of "Carlton Sherwood." Accordingly, I revised and updated the post to give more information to web searchers. The more undecided voters know about Carlton Sherwood's record, the better.

Book Talk
Last Thursday, Art Spiegelman appeared at the LA Central Library to discuss his new book In the Shadow of No Towers. I was moved by the book and Spiegelman's talk made me appreciate the book even more. The book deals with 9/11--comix deal with very serious subjects for those of you who don't know--Spiegelman's Maus is another good example.

Spiegelman had a lot of witty observations. I brought my mini-recorder but there was a sign prohibiting recording. I thought someone from the library was recording it and would offer tapes-for-purchase after the talk but that wasn't the case. I did jot down one funny thing Spiegelman said. Spiegelman said that one reason he made In the Shadow of No Towers look "like a children's book was that the president [then] might read it by mistake."

Quick Film Stuff
Yesterday was the premiere for Friday Night Lights at mann's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. I got there late so I didn't have time to prepare for a premiere after-party crash. I got an inside scoop that they were filming in Hollywood for the film Flightplan. It has Erika Christensen in it. I think I saw her in Westwood on Monday. It was the premiere of Riding the Bullet and I was walking past and I saw a blonde woman with a really nice butt--I think it was her but I'm not sure. I crashed the Swimfan premiere and saw her. She is hot.

Sean Hannity: Common Man and Salt of the Earth
Since he can't fly in style, Sean Hannity says he won't come to St. Louis at all.

After promising to counter Michael Moore's speech this Friday, the conservative commentator pulled out of the deal less than a week before his scheduled appearance-but reportedly asked that the media not be informed of his motivations for the decision.

Hannity cited personal reasons for his cancellation, said law student Ruth Hollander after speaking with the right-wing pundit over the phone yesterday. Hannity, Hollander said, requested a private jet to fly him to St. Louis for the speech, but then rejected "several" different jets offered by a private donor. He told Hollander about a "bad experience" with the prominent company that had manufactured all the jets offered for his trip.

"[Hannity's agent] said he thought we should say that because of the short time frame involved, it didn't work out," said Hollander. "I said I didn't think that was the truth, and...I really felt we had met all of our commitments and we were going to be honest when asked."

When Hollander and fellow law student Melinda Gorman failed to locate a jet manufactured by another company, they offered Hannity a first-class ticket on a commercial flight. He refused.

"He was very forceful on the phone," said Hollander. "It was hard to get a word in edgewise with him. He was interrupting me a lot. But that's sort of the nature of his personality-at least, his radio personality and T.V. personality."

The VP Debate
Overall Edwards looked very strong against not-my-Vice-President Cheney. I'm going to focus on the after-debate "analysis."

Not surprisingly, the Fox propaganda Network boys were themselves. I notice a couple revealing things. First, Fred Barnes finally admitted that Bush got trounced last Thursday (tonight he referred to "Bush's poor performance last Thursday"); after the first Kerry/Bush debate, Barnes called it a draw. Tonight, Barnes said that Cheney won on foreign policy but Edwards on domestic policy. The other Beltway Boy, Morton Kondracke didn't elaborate but said that Edwards was like a "dog yapping at a grownup's heels." Kondracke, like Barnes, initially called the first Kerry/Bush debate a draw but now apparently is facing reality. Send Kondracke a message by clicking here. If you really want to send a message, after you hit the "submit" button, hit the back button and send it again. You can do this many times. If enough people do this, it will fill Kondracke's mailbox and really piss him off. Trust me it will. So far, I've sent over twenty messages and will send more.

On The Angry Irish Ape-Man and Colmes Show, Sean Hannity questioned a Kerry spokesman. The spokesman did okay but should have caught Hannity on his lie that Kerry was flipfloping about Iraq. Hannity used the false GOP talking point that Kerry declared himself the anti-war candidate. To read a good analysis of this lie, click here.

What Gives?
The LA Times has been sucking lately. First, they start carrying Maragaret Carlson's column--some trenchant stuff there. Today, the Times has a Soros-bashing column incredibly titled, "George Soros: The 'God' Who Carries Around Some Dangerous Demons." It's the same old shit we're been hearing about Soros. The column insults the intelligence of its readers in too many ways to list. Let's start with the co-author of the article Shawn Macombe. Macombe is a staff writer at the American Spectator. Let's look at some of the demons carried around by some of the Spectator's benefactors--past and present. What the fuck kind of demon got into Richard Mellon's Scaife's noggin? I wonder about it. What makes Scaife believe that the former President Bill Clinton had murdered dozens of people? Write Macombe at editor@spectator.org and ask him. Also, write the LA Times at letters@latimes.com and tell them what you think.

This isn't the first time the pot has called George Soros black.

Dreier Update
When I was preparing for my post that addressed the outing of David Dreier, just out of curiosity, I wrote the Christian Science Church and asked them what their position was on homosexuality. Here is part of their reply:

It's important to know that the Church offers encouragement to everyone on their
spiritual journey as they strive to learn more about God. And the Church
lovingly encourages everyone to daily strive to fulfill that divine directive to
love God with all our heart and our neighbor as ourselves as Jesus taught and
showed us how to do. This all inclusive spiritual love embraces, uplifts,
comforts, and guides every one of us.

The Church doesn't take an official position on homosexuality. Instead, every
individual is encouraged to find their own perspective on all social, political,
and personal issues through their own spiritual searching and discovery.

A good place to start would be the very foundation on which this church and its
teachings are based -- the book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
While Mary Baker Eddy doesn't specifically refer to homosexuality, the practical
ideas in this book speak to the heart and thought of each reader giving fresh
insight on any topic.

Sounds reasonable to me. Doug Ireland has more on Dreier. The more I think about it, the better I feel about not being the person who outed Dreier. Like I have said, a person's personal life is none of my business. While I realize that Dreier's voting record isn't particularly gay-friendly, it wasn't as if the guy was a fire-breathing homophobe on the House floor either.

One more note on Dreier: local talk radio dorks John and Ken want to make Dreier a "human political sacrifice" because of Dreier softness on immigration. It would be so fucking cool if they succeeded. These two tools were part of the reason (a small part) we had the Schwarzenegger power grab in California. I hate these two for many reasons. Here are a few:
1. As I mentioned earlier, John and Ken are total tools. They make all white guys look like dweebs.
2. I can't tell them apart because they're both so bland.
3. They oppose illegal immigration yet they're posterboys for allowing in as many nonwhite people to counterbalance their lame whitebread asses.

Disclosure: Back when I crashed the Oscars, I appeared on the John and Ken show. It was rather uneventful. One of them was on vacation, I don't remember because, as I pointed out, I can't tell them apart.
